Happy Mother’s Day!
Hi Sprinklers!
Mother’s Day is upon us again! I’m not a Mother, so I can’t even begin to tell you all that goes into raising children to be responsible, productive members of society, however, growing up
in a single-parent household, I know how stressful it can be. Yes, rewarding too, but let’s be real here, it’s a full-time job in and of itself. According to a recent survey conducted on CNN.com, the annual salary of a stay-at-home mom would be around $138,095! With the the typical work week for a mom being over 90 hours, I’d say moms deserve more than just one day to be recognized for their greatness. Think about it….
From the time a mom knows she’s pregnant to the moment they pass away their lives are devoted to someone else. Their thoughts generally consist of something family related and they usually never spend any time on themselves. Our moms are not only a shoulder to cry on; they are our chauffeurs, accountants, chefs, public relations experts, marketing managers, teachers, counselors, and the list goes on. So, when you put it in that perspective, shouldn’t mom get more than just store-bought card and brunch at the Cheesecake Factory? It’s time we made them feel as special as they make us feel everyday!
Here are some great ideas for that you and your mom will both enjoy:
- Start with Breakfast in Bed! Tell Mom to sit back and relax and let you do the cooking for once! Or, you can make a healthy yet tasty breakfast together. Enjoy some laughs, reminisce and fill your tummies with heart-healthy food that will energize you for the day ahead.
- Now it’s time for something fun! Get some exercise while you’re having fun. Ask mom if there’s anything she’s ever wanted to try doing like indoor wall climbing, walking a nature trail, or even a pole dancing class…yeah I said it! It’s fun and burns tons of calories. Talk about creating memories! Find out what she has been wanting to do, but hasn’t had the chance, join in the fun, and watch her face light up!
- After that fun and energizing workout, it’s time to relax. There’s nobody else who deserves to be pampered like our mothers, so how about a spa day! Not in your budget? A spa mani-pedi is also a good way for Mom to treat herself and take the day off from thinking about everyone else. You may even be able to get a massage at the nail salon!
- At the end of the day, instead of giving your Mom a HallMark card that 100,000 other Moms probably have too, try sitting down and writing a your beloved mother a note expressing just how much she means to you. It’s rare that moms get thanked for being who they are and for all they do. I can honestly say I have taken my mother for granted many times and it’s time she knew just how much I appreciate her. Remember, tomorrow isn’t promised…so you don’t have to wait until Mother’s Day to say, “Thanks Mom! I appreciate you!”
They are the first person who teaches us how to deal with the world, how to treat other people, and how to love. Most of us are who we are because of our mother’s, which is why I want to wish every single mother (and single father) a very happy Mother’s Day! I’m sending a virtual hug to all of you!
XOXO,
Yolanda
