Is There Really a Taco Bell Diet?
You may have seen the commercials – and you may have been as shocked as I was. Taco Bell has a diet program?! The commercial showcases Christine, the woman who says she lost 54 pounds using Taco Bell’s Drive-Thru Diet! Weight Loss and Taco Bell in the same context? No Way!
I have to admit – I am not a huge fan of fast food in general, but Taco Bell is the one I actually enjoy every once in a while. Needless to say, the commercial got me thinking and I went to check out the Drive Thru Diet website. While this diet may sound a little too good to be true – it makes sense once you read more about it. Christine lost the weight by restricting her calorie intake to 1250 calories a day (I don’t know about you, but I tend to eat more than that!). How Taco Bell fits into the equation is that they have several healthy items on their menu that fit right into her low-calorie weight-loss plan. The website outlines the 7 menu options that are lower in fat and calories that helped Christine lose the weight.
How I see it, I am happy for anyone who can find weight-loss success in a program that works for their lifestyle. I think I would have a hard time cutting down my calories to 1250 a day, but it’s great to know that if I need a quick food fix, Taco Bell has some healthier alternatives.

I’ve done a 1200-calorie diet and it’s not too too hard, but I found myself eating a lot of pre-packaged foods, rather than fresh ones — just because it was easier to count.
So I agree with you that watching your intake is important, I just don’t think T-Bell is the way to do it. I love their shredded iceberg and all, but most of us need more vitamins and nutrition than that!

I’m glad you wrote about this! I saw the commercial last night and almost died laughing (what will marketers think up next?). I agree that it is great that Christine was able to lose the weight but how long will it take for her to put it back on? And Taco Bell? Hardly, a balanced diet.
Thanks for the post!

I recently compared all of the fast food nutritional charts and found that Taco Bells regular menu is far worse then any other fast food. So if you do stop by for the diet options – stick with them. Taco Bells regular items offer a lot of fat and a lot of calories. I also found out that McDonald’s items tend to have less calories then the flame-broiled specialst – BK. But it’s great to know that everyone is offering low-cal options now. Just make sure to skip the fries!

I actually spent the whole of 10th grade eating the number 4 combo from Del Taco. 2 chicken tacos, fries and a coke. I did not lose weight. But that was probably 1250 calories in one sitting….

We saw the commercial last night on the TV and we had to laugh. I agree with Marguerete, when you follow 1 1250 cal. diet or less you will lose weight but I’m sure there’s healthier ways than Taco Bell to stay on that calorie intake.
But good to know there’s healthy options in the fast food chains! Although with Sensa, a burger doesn’t sound bad at all. Just keep sprinkling!

The best way to lose weight is a balance of exercise and nutrition.
