Yoga: The New Brain Food
Yoga is no longer a fad for the rich and famous, it is now considered one of the best ways to lose belly fat while boosting your intelligence! Bikram followers used to gloat that if you weren’t subjecting yourself to extreme heat while practicing yoga you weren’t doing your body good; but boy do we have news for all you Bikram lovers out there. Trend Central’s Smart Marketing Article states, “Yoga studios have long marketed themselves as spiritually good for the mind, but thanks to medical research proving that the practice of all yoga increases GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid, the brain’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter) levels in the brain places like Brooklyn’s Body and Brain Wellness Center have begun promoting themselves as intelligent, as well as body, boosters.”
No one wants that extra “package” on your belly this year so take initiative and do something great for not only your mind but your body as well! When I started yoga two years ago I would only practice at the Yoga Shelter, a Detroit based studio that offers ten different class types. The three most common and most important (in my mind) are Slow Flow, Sanga Vinyasa and Fusion.
Slow Flow is for those who are looking to experience a physically slower paced class. It will focus on
working at a methodical pace. We will be holding postures, focusing on our breath, and at the same time creating a supple and toned body. Sanga Vinyasa is a dynamic series of sequenced postures that seamlessly “flow” together. This form of Sanga yoga is designed to build great internal heat in order to purify our systems. The heat in the class comes from the room temperatures being in excess of 90 degrees as well as physically demanding postures to be done at the measure of your own breath. If you’re looking for a faster paced challenge than Slow Flow this is the class for you! And lastly Fusion is a class that has been created for Vinyasa and Slow Flow to come together. This class will allow you to get the Vinyasa work out if you choose or the Slow Flow stretch it that’s what you need.
Ultimately, the type of yoga you choose to do is TOTALLY up to you! No matter which one you choose you are only benefiting yourself, your intelligence and that stubborn belly fat!
Namaste,
JeJe
