You don't have to gain weight over the holidays!
Hi Everyone,
Now of course you should enjoy this time of year to the fullest. But remember, you always have choices, and sometimes a simple shift in thinking can make all the difference. Here’s 5 tips to minimize your waistline this month.
1. Change your definition of fullness.
After most meals, you should feel as if you could get up, go outside and go for a stroll. Stop eating when you get to that point. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register that you are full, so you should also try to slow down and chew each bite thoroughly.
2. Create a plan of attack.
Before you go out think about what foods will be available. Some are really special to you, and some you could probably do without. If you decide in advance that you are going to avoid the eggnog in favor of a white wine spritzer it will be easier to say no when the hostess offers.
3. Quit judging yourself and others by the foods you eat.
Salads are not necessarily “good,” and fudge isn’t necessarily “bad.” They’re both just food. And all foods are allowed in moderation. If you decide that you really want something be sure not to rush through the meal. Savor it and make it special.
4. Forget “all or nothing” thinking.
This mindset is particularly dangerous because if you’re feeling that you’ve already “blown it” in the morning, you might use it as an excuse to eat a tub of ice cream that night. Instead, think of how you can make it up the next day with a nice long walk at lunchtime or skipping dessert.
5. Move it!
In addition to burning fat, exercise is a great way to deal with the day to day stresses of life. Research shows that those who exercise regularly lose more weight than those who diet alone so don’t minimize the importance of being physically active.
